Cluster Benefits Report

The cover of the Cluster Benefits Report 2014

The Cluster’s inaugural Benefits Report (Autumn 2014) was launched at the event, which provided an opportunity to reflect on the successes of the Schools Programme to date (as featured in our last dot-mailer). Much of the data gathered to support the report was provided by iESE. A wider summary of performance against all the Cluster’s objectives can be found on SharePoint (in the reports area). “Better Together” “Collaboration is hard work” The members of the Cluster Board (Myles Milner, John Stebbings and Steve Clow) provided some insight into the issues facing the public sector and the support needed from the construction industry. Inflation, reduction in Government grant, revenue savings and the growing skills gap were all acknowledged as some of the biggest challenges currently facing us. The strength of the partnership between the authorities, acting with one voice, and the need for our contractors to continue to support the original aims of the programme through rigorous two-stage open book procurement and continuous collaboration were common themes. It was acknowledged that whilst celebrating success at the event we still need to work hard at this, we are in difficult times.

Two Workshop Sessions

Highlighting the emerging joint working activity across a group of authorities in the south east (the ‘SE7’), the first session identified areas where it was felt having a defined ‘pipeline’ of construction work available can be of benefit us. The second session focussed on the learning from two years of continuous programme delivery, asking the audience to inform a blueprint for what good programmes of work look like.
Outputs from both sessions are now posted on the website. We would thank everyone for taking part in these exercises, your contribution was excellent.
